Overruled is a speed/thrash metal band from Holland known for their direct, uncompromising metal. Overruled previously released an EP in 2013, followed by the full-length album Hybris in 2018.

On this new EP, titled Ritual of Rebirth, the band takes a clear step towards a heavier and darker sound, in which, besides speed and thrash, influences from death and black metal are also prominently present. The music is more layered, intense, and thematically more focused than before. Thematically, the EP addresses topics such as deception, abuse of power, and ideological decline, with a strong focus on the consequences of these on an individual level.

The lyrics address subjects such as mental isolation, guilt, loss of direction, and inner dislocation, and paint a picture of a world characterized by darkness, chaos, and moral disintegration, where external influences and personal choices reinforce or undermine each other. This theme is approached without explicit solutions or redemption, leaving room for interpretation. The occult and dark symbolism forms an important aesthetic layer, rooted in classic metal traditions. For this release, Overruled joined forces with No Dust Records.

The EP was recorded by Fredde Kaddeth at Dirty Bird Recording Studio and mixed and mastered by Erwin Hermsen at Toneshed Music Production, resulting in a powerful, transparent production that supports both the speed and the heavier, darker elements. The artwork was done by Misanthropic-Art Illustrations, and visually matches the intensity and atmosphere of the EP.
